If you are dealt cards that are pair in bj, what do you do? Do you split? Do you not? Let’s say you get 2 identical cards with equal value and the game allows splits. You should consider carefully when you are going to split or not. Here is an example of the move.

Let’s say you have 2 tens that total 20 in value. The dealer can get a 21 to beat against you, but you still have a good chance of a win. On the other hand if you have two face-cards it may be a better option to split/separate them up. Any ten(10) or face-card as your very next card dealt and you're odds on favorite to win.

In general, the lower in value of the cards you get, the less effective splitting will be. So if you have two eights, for example, you aren’t in a bad position. If you split though and you get a six, then you move up in value. On the other hand if you get a ten, you are too high to do anything more. That total of 18 leaves the dealer a lot of leeway to still come in for a win.

Lower card values should be thought out before you split. For example, if you have a total pair like 5s, you have a total of 10. If you don’t split, and manage to draw a ten, you are in a great position for blackjack. Splitting or not splitting is a case by case decision. Think wisely and do a little math before you make your next move.
