Card counting is a way of keeping track of the odds in blackjack. If you can effectively count cards you
can increase your wager when the odds are in your favor and decrease them when the odds aren’t.
It sounds elemental, and it is really. It takes some focus, but you can train yourself to do it. Because you only have one count to worry
about, it makes for an easier way to keep track of the cards.
When a blackjack game begins, the running count should be reset. The start value is (-2) times the number of decks at the shoe. For example, if the game is being played with eight decks, then the running count starts at (-2) x 8, or (-16). When each hand is dealt, cards are eliminated and to six are valued at +1 point. Tens and Aces count at (-1). The system seven cards count as 1 and red seven systems cards, 8 cards and nine cards are all counted as zeros. This card counting system uses two bets. The lower bet is the minimum table and the higher bet is ten times the lower bet. So if the table minimum is $5, then the low bet is $5 and the high bet is $50.
The general rule of betting in this system is, when the running amount is bigger than zero and you get a bet the high and when it is zero or less, you bet the minimum bet. Overall it capitalizes on the various changes in the shoe and the number of cards available. It isn’t hard to keep track of the running total, but it does take some practice. To use the system, it is best to either test it out during a “free play” session or to use it online. That way you can keep track of the total. It’s always harder to do anything in a land-based casino due to the many distractions. Always try to test a new strategy in as quiet a place as possible so you can focus and concentrate.
